Prayer to God

Earlier today I read an article entitled Don't Ask Your Spirit Guides (by Slade Roberson)...and the important message conveyed was that "It’s crucial that you realize you are not praying to...[your spirit guides]...— they are not an authority; you are the authority. You don’t work for your spirit guides; your guides and guardians work for you."  This article further explained the dynamics of communicating effectively with your spirit guides and how to exercise the creative power that we all possess.

As I marinated on what I'd just read and came to an understanding of it...the following question popped into my mind...

If we are in constant contact with our spirit guides, and we are in charge, delegating and seeking advice from them…is prayer to God, then, more of a communing? More of a reconnecting, reenergizing, recentering experience? And then when we’re actually planning and taking action we just communicate with our guides?

While I eagerly await the wisdom from a few bloggers whom I LOVE...Slade Roberson and Andrea Hess...I was encouraged to explore this question on my own.  And to "keep in mind that we’re dealing with The Mysteries — the Answers aren’t nearly as important as the Questions we contemplate in moving toward Answers… "

Sooo...here goes...

I understand that we are all made in the image and likeness of God.  I also understand that we are very much connected to God.  God is the Source of all things.  To put it simply...it's like when we're born physically...we're made in the image of our parents.  They are our "source".  And when growing up...our parents sent us to school.  There, we had teachers and tutors that were there to teach, guide, and help mold us to become who we are today.  We had various life experiences in school as well.  Also, while in school we decide who we want to be when we grow up, how we want to live our lives, and how we want to help others.  And, it is in school where we receive direction and advice in these areas.  Although we have all these resources...it's really up to US how we use them. 

So, if we're receiving all this at school...what's our parents job???  Our parents job is to love us...fill us with love.  Here is where we receive our encouragement.  Here is where we're reminded of WHO WE ARE.  Here is where we are told our personal history.  Here is where we're taken care of, fed, clothed...our "source" provides for us.  Here is where we learn the importance of respecting and appreciating our parents...for we know they created us and take care of us, and love us unconditionally.  Here is also where we're given guidance on a much higher level.

Of course this is an idealistic view of parents...but, this is just for the sake of an example.  If I look at it this way...I can answer my question by saying that God is like our parents.  And our spirit guides and angels are like our teachers, tutors, etc. in school.  While we have our spirit guides and angels as resources to help us in our journey here in life...we cannot neglect the importance of prayer to God, our source.  It's important that we reconnect, recenter ourselves.  We do this by communing with God in prayer.  In prayer, we show our appreciation and praise and get a "rebooting"...a reenergizing.  It's kinda like a rechargeable battery.  We have to plug in every once in awhile to fill back up.

Sooo....that's how I would answer my question.  What do you think?  In the meantime...let's see how my answer matches up with the "wise ones"...;-)

I agree with the answer to your own question, i particualrly enjoyed the simplistic way that you broke it down. Using as an example parents being the source, and experiences, teachers, and tutors being the shapers... That example really help me to understand the concept. But im glad that you pointed out that praying to the Source, God...is the important thing because i feel showing appreciation and giving thanks to him is of the utmost importance because after all he is our creator. none of us would exist, or have free will, or even understand the capacity of which we control our own lives... So i totally agree with your answer, praying to God can be a recharge...

Yeah! I'm so glad that you answered this question in your own words. I often tell people who work with communicating with their guides, or retrieving information from their higher selves, or directly from Source:

Often, what you most need to hear will pop right out of your own mouth!

This is essentially a form of channeling, and you can channel spiritual wisdom just as well as anybody else if you choose to set that intention.

Why not you?

There's no comparison to the information and wisdom you can retrieve from your guides, for yourself. Any psychic or medium can only, at best, re-frame the truth for you in a way that resonates, that you recognize because you already know it...

I personally, really like your Parent metaphor -- it's original, valid, unique to you... It's gloriously different than how I might describe it, which I look forward to doing myself in a future post.
